The tour was engaging and the heritage trail definitely educated us on how our pioneers served our nation well in order for us to enjoy the fruits of their labour. I was attracted to the interesting title of this tour but didn’t expect much since this was paid by SingapoRediscovers Vouchers but was I surprised. The tour is delightful, insightful and surprisingly heartwarming. Not only is the content well-researched, I really enjoy the personable way Patrick leads the tour, his affability and attention to details, not to mention the rare and interesting anecdotes he shares. The tour is a great way to spend a Saturday morning and I’m definitely planning to join more Pers8actives tours!

I really like that 30% of the tour fees goes to beneficiaries that goes to supporting people who need a little support from the more fortunate ones in Singapore.

The advice to come with an empty stomach has never been so relevant and apt. Even starving the night before couldn't prepare me for the gastronomical onslaught (and im a big eater). Food is really good and varied, our guide Jackie is knowledgeable and takes care of us very well. Content is relevant and educational, and this makes a Uniquely Singapore experience. Strongly recommend for foodies! Bagus!

The tour was an excellent way for us to spend our off day. Patrick is super knowledgeable and paced the tour very well. It was not hurried and there were many times during the tour when he gave us time to allow us to appreciate the place, food and stories. As we were in no rush after the tour ended, Patrick even took us to a household shop where they sold crockery that is so familiar to anyone who has ever stayed in Singapore - the ones with the rooster and cute tingkat sets. I'd definitely recommend this tour to anyone who's keen to learn more about the culture and history of Singapore.

Patrick is an amazing tour guide. He is passion about Peranakan food, culture and Joo Chiat area. Patrick showed us around the famous popiah in Joss Chiat, and how they make the popiah skin, and you also get a chance to wrap your own. That is the best popiah I had ever had. I didn't appreciate Peranakan food until I met Patrick. Besides popiah, we also had authentic and super affordable curry puff. The sardine one tastes so yummy. The other highlight of the trip is the Peranakan culture, they customized their own plates too. And we are so lucky to find one of the most authentic Peranakan restaurant after the tour, to have our Peranakan omakase. The whole tour is so wonderful with Patrick.

Really enjoyed this walking tour! As a Singaporean, I have probably walked past all the stops on the tour dozens of times, but never really paid much attention to all the remnants of old Singapore. Our guide, Patrick, was not only very knowledgeable but also an engaging storyteller, fully captivating us with stories of the early settlers, as well as the important role our tiny island nation played in the history of the world. We discovered many quaint places for food and drink that we will definitely revisit again, but the best takeaway from the tour was indisputably the stories and lessons that we will never be able to glean from history books. Highly recommend, for both Singaporeans and tourists alike!

This was the first Singapore walking tour I have been on, and if the others are any where close to this one, I would go for all of them. This was a delightful and thoroughly informative experience! I learnt loads about Joo chiat - from its inception, its food and even the darker sides to its history, which our incredible guide, Patrick, shared with us with great detail and enthusiasm. Patrick took us to many iconic spots, weaving in personal anecdotes (having grown up in the area) as well as historical facts about Joo chiat culture and Peranakan culture. We made our own popiah at the legendary kway guan huat, which was fun and delicious. Michael, the owner, was very gracious and made us feel at home in his homely restaurant. We tried different kuehs and epok epoks as we walked, ending the tour at Rumah kim choo. Overall, an afternoon more than well spent, our guide Patrick certainly made the entire experience memorable and he was not afraid to go the extra mile for us. The tour left me feeling appreciative of the blend of cultures we have here in Singapore, and inspired to find out more about places/things I might not know about Singapore's history.

Signed up for the tour as I was was restless from being cooped up in Singapore. I expected to coast through a leisurely afternoon with some coffee and tea, but found myself immersed in Patrick's narratives of Singaporean culture and history. A thoughtful curation of food frames the entire tour. Just as the 'Bitter Brews' were used as an occasion to come together and share, it also relates to history, socio-political consciousness, and stories of personal conviction. Nondescript places that would usually evade our attention came to life. Patrick's narratives begins from an unassuming jar in the hands of a bronze statue, and unravels across various spots in Chinatown- a hawker stall serving up delicious broths, the oldest tea merchant in Singapore, a hole in the wall coffee museum, a herbal brew, a provision store selling ground coffee and vintage wares; each with a unique place in our culture and an underlying thread of tenacity and industry. We ended the tour inspired and very much enriched- mind, tummy and soul!
